The food was delicious and the service was excellent. I am happy to be able to order clam chowder soup during the week, not just on Friday.
This place has a great vibe, friendly staff, delicious oysters (in fact everything is delicious including their Spanish coffee and carrot cheesecake)

Our server was outstanding. But we had a couple of issues with our food not being prepared as ordered. It also took quite some time to have someone come to our table to give us water and take our order, as well for someone to seat us.

The manager came around to make sure our food was was good. After informing him that it was only ok, he went out of his way to make sure it was up to par. Amazing service.
Garlic salmon was fantastic. Unfortunately, a dinner salad was $8.50 and a Caesar was $11 so we passed on a side dish.

Portion size was EXTREMELY small for the price. I feel it was overpriced even after the $25 gift card was applied. $12 for ONE crab cake appetizer. Years ago you would give more than one for that price!

I had one glass of wine and have to say it was the shortest pour I have ever had. 7 sips and it was gone. Will return but wont get wine again. Did ask the waitress when she delivered it and she said it is their standard pour. Disappointing.
Kimberly was our server. She was attentive and pleasant. The food was excellent and priced reasonably. We dined on a not busy Monday night. Will definitely try it again on a weekend.

My girlfriend and I enjoyed the Salt Life Sampler, which was an appetizer that I had had for lunch on another visit. Great value! Naomi, our server, provided excellent service. The only negative is that the price of wine-by-the-glass is ridiculous, especially for the size of the pour.

Tom's is our home away from home. I live in NJ, my boyfriend lives in Michigan. So on my monthly visits this is our go-to!
Food was a little dry
We shared oysters and a smoked salmon blt. The oysters lacked brine (a bit dry) and the smoked salmon on the blt still had the skin/scales attached, which wasn't noticed until chewing on it. Our server was great but the food was a little disappointing.

The food here has gone down badly since we were there about a year ago. The service was good but the parking in Royal Oak is TERRIBLE. Many streets closed and others torn up so unless you are willing to walk a LONG way, stay away from this restaurant and Royal Oak in general. The biggest disappointment was the food though.
Viewed menu online and had heart set on a dish that is no longer offered. Staff indicated that item had been discontinued for over a year, yet its still on the online menu.

The food was pretty good but with our fish and chips we were given cole slaw. That is pretty normal, right? The problem was that the amount you get is about a thimble of cole slaw. Really? Cabbage is pretty inexpensive. That is just horrible. The fish and chips themselves were good but not great.

Salmon was hot ( part of it was overcooked) vegetables under salmon, although artfully displayed, and were cold. The other dish was good. The clam chowder was unremarkable.Waited a long time for a server. Once they realized we were there, the service was good- it was not crowded, we were seated right away.

The fish and chips was tasteless. And the cup of tea was bought out in a dirty cup. And the spoon was also dirty.

Took a long time to even put in drink order.2nd server took over and service was okay.
Our server did not offer us any bread; we had to ask for it and eventually got it after we finished our meals.
The only additional feedback was we asked for extra helping of cold slaw which was sparingly given. The waitress stated they were not allowed to give extra. We aksed if we paid for some would she bring us some and she said she may be able to bring us a little. I thought, 'really'. If a customer is willing to pay for something, it should be given without hesitation. That was suprising to us. It's not a good choice for 'date night' as the noise level is through the roof!

We've ordered lobster bisque and have ordered it there before but today there was no lobster in it. The clams poutine was simply french fries smothered in clam chowder. We have definitely had better meals there. It wasn't the service. The restaurant wasn't even busy.

This used to be one of our favorite spots, but things have gone down hill from what it was. Prices have gone up, quality has declined. Perch was burned, (too hot skillet) and may have been under warmer too long, Fish & Chips soggy as well as undersized. No potato with one order of perch. Apps pretty skimpy as well for Happy Hour Deal. No lemon, or tarter served with meal. Not that crowded but service not very attentive. Given the cost even with the discount of $25.00 I would be hard pressed to return unless I was sure of some positive changes.

Good food, good service. My wife and I had a good time and then walked over to see a movie.
Every entrée was delicious and exceeded our expectations. Our server was very knowledgeable about the food and drink offerings.
Delicious appetizer - oysters and lobster pate. Bummed that the fish n chips lunch portion was a "snack size". Wish they had dinner portion available at lunch. Malt fries were delicious!!!
Other than having children with us and being sat right next to bar, the experience was good. Wish there were more child friendly desserts available.
$10 per scallop is way too high and food was only warm. An additional $2.50 for liquor on the rocks is too high; did not order "neat" ... already paying premium price for premium liquor.
Short rib was not cooked properly, soup needed to be hot and was not, perch and shrimp overpriced for size, good happy hour specials.
Once again, service was excellent, server was quite knowledgeable about all menu items and specials, and the food was delicious. Presentation was visually very appealing and expertly prepared.
The Lobster Bisque (which is one of my favorites) was excellent. Smooth and creamy. Shrimp and Chips was the special. It was delicious. My partner had Oysters Rockefeller. He said it was the best he ever had. The waiter was friendly and attentive.

New menu items are not all as good as before. Calamari is really "bad" compared to the last chef. Menu print is too small. Small portions are not worth the price. Many descriptions are worded poorly and unable to understand what the food is.

This is bar food. Not a place to dine ona full dinner menue. Appetizers are thefeature items. i.e. oysters, calamari,etc. Items are over salted and greasy.Servers were pleasant and tried to please.

My sister and I went yesterday for my birthday. I ordered the perch lunch, she had the michigan salad. We both experienced diaherea. The food was definitely off. I have been going since they opened 25 years ago...hundreds of times. I still have a restaurant.com coupon, but I don't think we'll be back. Too bad!

Our server, Brain, was wonderful. It was our Anniversary so he gave us a complimentary Champagne toast and free dessert. Delicious food and good atmosphere. Only problem is too many sports screens. Very distracting.

The food was good, but the service was terrible. Erin was our server. She seemed confused. We had to ask for bread, she told us it was on request only, we had to ask for silverware. She provided wrong information about the menu and was slow. She charged my credit card the wrong amount.

Lobster taco was not good thought I try something different should have call cabbage tacos. First time had a terrible meal.

The food was prepared perfectly. Two guests had the scallops which are often over cooked. Ours were perfect. The catfish and crabcakes were also prepared to our satisfaction.
The gorgonzola calamari was to die for. Also the seafood pasta aurioro was excellent. Jennifer our waitress was very friendly and pleasant.

The waitress spilled some of my iced tea on the table and my girlfriends coat that was on a stool.She laughed and appologized but NEVER cleaned it up! the food is ok, but 6 perch fillets for 23$(think fish nugget) is a little steep.

Our server was fantastic. We had one oyster left on the plate and he asked way didnt we eat it and we told him it didnt look right. He ran back and got us another ouster free of charge. That was a nice jesture.
I have been going to Tom's for a very long time, it was my Mother's 86th birthday, and there was no other place she wanted to go. She loves the crab cakes, and the people watching. We will return soon.

Would prefer more seating with seat backs.(We sat at a high top stools). Appetizer came late(order not put in) so were not charged which was fair. Otherwise enjoyable visit.
I have been going to Tom's Oyster bar since I moved to Ferndale four years age. I have never had a bad meal, service or experience there. It is one of my favorite places to eat out!!

Have been coming to Tom's for years. This was the first time we have experienced these problems. It was so bad we will probably not ever return for dinner. Server awful. Food awful - we have NEVER had that happen before.

Two orders of fish tacos: one order had no sauce, both orders were very bland and there was more pieces of batter than actual fish. Both orders were served cold and it took 1 hour and five minutes to recieve our food.
we had appetizers adn two meals, the crab leggs were "cold" the clam chowder soup was not as good as ususal something was missing, no seasoning and we were truly disappointed and offered no compensation, we just took the rest home and fed it to our pets.

Realize we ate on a Monday evening, however my husband and my dinners were just fair (veg. were lukewarm, no seasoning on potatoes, no bread offered). Just not up to Tom's Oyster Bar standards.Will probably try other Tom's locations.

The food was not as tasty or healthy as I expected. The table top was sticky, the waitress seemed to be impatient and not engaged, and overall the dining experience was not enjoyable considering the cost of the adventure. I would not recommnend Tom's Oyster Bar to any of my friends.
